About Us
The Amazigh American Network Organization (AANO) is a Boston-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving and promoting Amazigh culture, art, and heritage. We empower North African communities in the U.S. through education, cultural initiatives, and artistic collaboration, while raising global awareness of Amazigh identity and traditions.
Our Mission
To serve as a gateway for Americans and other nationalities to discover, learn, and connect with Amazigh people and culture through activities all across the U.S. Each year, we engage in activities such as hosting performance shows, holding Amazigh language workshops, celebrating Amazigh New Year, conducting outreach programs, in addition to other events to promote the Amazigh culture and art.
Who We Are?
Language
The Amazigh language, also known as the Tamazight, are a branch of the Afroasiatic language family. counts about forty dialects, which entirely cover North Africa, stretching from Morocco to Egypt, as well as from the Mediterranean Sea to the Sahara and the northern and western Sahel, including Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.
People
The Amazigh peoples are the native Peoples of of North Africa. The population is estimated of more than 50 million people in North Africa, representing a significant portion of the populations of Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. There is also a large population Tuareg south of Libya and Amazigh in Egypt, especially in the western oasis.
Homeland
North Africa also known as Tamazgha, extends from the Atlantic Ocean, on the west, to the Suez Canal, on the east, and includes the Canary Islands, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and parts of Egypt. Ongoing Projects
While the publicity around the word “Amazigh” has substantially increased, most Americans’ knowledge of Amazigh people & culture remains limited. AANO aims to close this gap by serving as a gateway for Americans and other nationalities to discover, learn, and connect with Amazigh people by sharing stories and insights from the region.
Amazigh Film Festival
On October 12, 2025, A celebration of Amazigh culture through films and documentaries. This years event will be held at Northeastern University in Boston and it is presented the 2025 edition is presented in partnership with the Northeastern North African Student Association and the Tazzla Institute for Cultural Diversity. Amazigh New Year in Boston
On January 10th, 2026 join us at the Center for Arts at The Armory in Somerville, MA, for an exclusive celebration of the #Amazigh New Year. Immerse yourself in the cultural richness of the Amazigh community with an evening filled with live music, captivating folk dances, and enlightening presentations and activities on Amazigh heritage and language.
